(1) differential distribution of MEC and LEC projections to the hippocampus;
(2) more regular laminar structure in MEC than LEC;

Layer 5 of EC: subdivided into Va & Vb; Vb targeted by CA1, subiculum, RSC and EC L2 RL+; Vb innervates Va.
